The parent training for conduct problems is a BABCP accredited programme and qualifies staff with a graduate or postgraduate diploma in evidence-based practice to support parents with children aged 3-10 experiencing conduct problems.

WOULD I BE SUITABLE?

  • Eligibility to complete the KSA route To be eligible for KSA, a candidate would need to have a minimum of 2 years’ relevant full-time equivalent therapeutic experience in a mental health setting.

How does the training work?

The course runs for one year, between January and December. This is a training course funded by Health Education England, so you would be studying at the University of Exeter 2 days a week and working in a children’s mental health service 2-3 days per week. You are employed directly by your service, so would apply for a role with them and then be put forward for the course. 

What topics will I be studying?

You will study the following academic modules as part of the course. Click on the links to find out more information:

  • PYCM029  – Evidence-based Parenting Interventions

What clinical work would I complete?

You will complete the following clinical work during the year:

  • Two parenting groups based on the Incredible Years programme, comprising 12-14 participants in total, with a minimum of 50% of participants completing.
  • Six individual completed cases (three from within the group, and three outside of the group) of six sessions, and five hours of supervision around these cases.

How is the course assessed?

The course will be assessed both via your clinical work (through videotaped sessions, supervision reports and clinical portfolio), as well as via academic assessments (essays, case reports and presentations).  

Is this course accredited?

Yes, this course is accredited by BABCP.
