CEDAR is delighted to announce a new NHS-E Workforce Training and Education funded CPD course, for those working in participation, voice, engagement and lived experience in relation to young people’s mental health services and parenting work.

There are three elements to CEDARs ‘Inspiring Participation’ course to support and develop your organisations approach to participation. To access this training, engagement with all three elements is required (details below). The course offers an opportunity to reflect, transform, enhance, and sustain meaningful participation of children young people and families as a central aspect of improving the quality and outcomes of service delivery for your organisation.

ADVANCED PARTICIPATION PRACTITIONER TRAINING (6 DAY IN-PERSON/ONLINE TRAINING COURSE)

  • Autumn Dates: Tuesdays: 3rd October (in-person), 17th October (online), 31st October (online), 14th November (online), 28th November (online), 12th December 2023 (in-person)

ABOUT THE COURSE

This course is designed to enhance and develop your practice and increase competencies in participation and engagement.  The course will be delivered over 6 full days (2 days face to face at the University of Exeter Streatham campus and 4 days online). There will be an Autumn cohort (October – December 2023) and a Spring cohort (January – March 2024). Please note the spring training dates will be open for
registration in the coming months.

This course will cover: 

  • The ontology, philosophy and ethics of participation
  • Participation models and their appropriateness
  • Stage and age of lived experience 
  • Learned experience and how to develop it
  • Planning projects and managing them for success
  • Working with others and having difficult conversations
  • Preparing people to share (or not) 
  • Evaluation and tracking of difference made
  • Creating projects based on principles 
  • Challenging and controversy, how to manage it  
  • Individual, service level and Commissioning level participation  
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion  
  • More than steering groups – moving to youth led approaches 
  • Creative thinking and doing  
  • Becoming an Agent of change – understanding how to use carrots and sticks, winning hearts and minds
  • Impacts – what difference does your role make?

You will be required to engage in a reflective practice assignment to support your learning.   

There will be up to 20 places available (maximum of 2 places per organisation). 

Please note there will be complimentary modules for other team members, senior managers, and commissioners, to ensure joined up thinking across your service. In order to access the practitioner training your organisations senior managers are also agreeing to attend two half day workshops and support wider staff to access all staff training.

INSPIRING PARTICIPATION: COMMISSIONERS, MANAGERS AND SENIOR LEADERS WORKSHOP (2 HALF DAY ONLINE WORKSHOPS)

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This will be an opportunity for commissioners, senior leaders and managers to understand the content and context of the advanced practitioner training and support meaningful change organisation wide. These two workshops will ensure that as a manager you can take a leadership role in developing, supporting and sustaining inspiring participation.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This whole team awareness training is designed to support all staff in understanding, supporting and sustaining inspiring participation.

Have you ever wanted to know more about how meaningful participation can create better service outcomes? How individual practitioners and services can support young people, parent carers and families in having a voice over how services are delivered and sustained? Do you want to learn from other organisations about best practice? This half day workshop for all staff will provide an opportunity to enhance your understanding and support your role in meaningful engagement and participation.
