About this Course

The aim of this programme is to develop awareness and strategies for leading service change to deliver evidence based, quality driven, client and outcome informed services. Suitable for managerial or clinical leaders in children and young people’s mental health services who are motivated to lead and modernise services within complex environments.

Please note that due to the current context of Covid-19 and social distancing requirements, both of the Leadership Workshops CPD intakes are currently being planned as online delivery. This will be reviewed closer to the date, and those booked onto this workshop series will be updated with any changes. The maximum cohort size for the workshop series is 24.

There will be 24 spaces available for this set of a 5-day workshop. We would encourage any current or emerging service leads from our participating services to register for a place.

Programme

Day 1: CONTEXT AND COMMISSIONING

  • Commissioning (afternoon): Focus  |  Context  |  Process

Day 2: SYSTEMS AND LEADERSHIP

  • Understanding local context and working within and across systems and boundaries
  • Leadership models – an overview of leadership approached and processes

Day 3: STRATEGIC THINKING AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT

  • To understand what Strategic Thinking means in practice and why it is important;
  • To learn how to use some practical strategic thinking techniques to analyse your current service and the environment in which you are operating
  • To apply some service development techniques to analyse the current service pathway and identify practical changes you need to make to achieve improvements
  • To review relationships which are critical to your success and identify what you could do to strengthen them further
  • To develop an outline plan of action which you feel confident you can implement

Day 4: MANAGING CHANGE AND BUILDING RESILIENCE

  • To examine the power of assumptions that people make about change and the effect they can have
  • To understand the difference between Change and Transition and what is required to manage both effectively
  • To understand what different people’s needs are through change and how to take people with you
  • To understand how you can support your teams better and strengthen their resilience when going through change
  • To develop an outline plan of action which you feel confident you can implement

Day 5: WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND INTO ACTION

  • Understanding real world workforce requirements
  • Mapping current workforce and roles
  • Effective planning within your context
  • Implementing Workforce development – learning from success and failure
  • Staff support, training and development
  • Into Action: Action Learning Sets

Peer Coaching Support

As part of the programmes offer, delegates on the Leadership CPD training will be guided into peer led coaching groups. This process is in place to facilitate professional networking, support accountability functions in relation to service development tasks and provide peer support, encouragement and challenge.
