ABOUT THE EVENT
This two-day workshop will provide a practical and evidence-based overview of adaptations for supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as part of routine clinical practice within Low Intensity emotional wellbeing and Mental Health Support Team services.
Recognising that many children presenting for support with anxiety, mood, behaviour and emotion regulation may well also have a neurodevelopmental condition, this workshop is designed to support existing clinicians to identify these needs and incorporate adaptations into their clinical work. The training will include an overview of the profile of needs for children and young people with ASD, the impact that this can have on mental health and emotional wellbeing, and the implications for clinicians working with young people with these needs.
The workshop is intended for Low Intensity practitioners working with children and young people’s emotional wellbeing and mental health services across settings. The aim will be to provide practical advice on the use of adaptations which practitioners can apply in their day to day work, including: environmental adaptations for ASD, adapting therapy content, communication and the therapeutic relationship, involving parents, teachers and wider professional networks and how and when to signpost for additional support.
